At Cash Connect, we take an interest in social issues and believe in making a difference in the lives of people in our community. Therefore, it is important that we, as employees, offer our time and neighbourly love to lend a helping hand, and not just choose the easy way out by making monetary donations. We believe that our social upliftment endeavours will have a life-changing consequence for the recipients, as well as boost the morale of our employees.

We are passionate about making a difference and challenge other businesses to invest in our community.

Blanket Drive - Gauteng

As an extension of our social upliftment outreach to Cradle of Hope in 2016, our Gauteng team supported them again this year and also reached out to those in need at the Cradle Arc in Tarlton. We believe that the blankets our Gauteng team donated on Mandela Day, 18 July 2017, will make a difference in the lives of 150 families! Watch the video and get inspired!

Blanket Drive – Free State

Don't under estimate our 'small' Free State team! On 19 July 2017 this team reached out to Estoire squatter camp in Bloemfontein and donated 22 blankets! But that's not all, Len's wife made lucky packets for the kiddies to brighten up their day! In addition, Cherelle's daughter (Mike) also wanted to make a difference and decided to 'hand-made' brooches for the elderly.
Thank you to Cherelle and Len (and their families) for paying it forward!

Blanket Drive – Western Cape

The Cape Town team donated 165 blankets to the Lucky Lucy Foundation. This is the same organisation that the Cape Town team reached out to last year… and we’re so glad to see that the hard work that went into laying the pavers are still there! The Lucky Lucy Foundation is a non-profit, pro-life, pro-quality of Life organisation that tries to relieve the plight of severely neglected and abused township and street animals.

Thank you to the Capetonians for paying it forward!

New mothers receive baby hampers

On Saturday, 2 April 2016, the Finance team embarked on our first charity social upliftment endeavour. In the morning, we assisted the Grace Factory to pack baby hampers for mothers who had babies but do not have access to the bare minimum goods to care for their new born babies. These hampers included nappies, blankets, baby clothing, baby toys and wet wipes, to name but a few items. In the afternoon, we visited OR Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg and handed out the hampers to mothers who were discharged on the day – these mothers were aged between 14 and 41 years.

The Durban Child and Youth Care Centre gets a face-lift

On Saturday, 16 April 2016, our KwaZulu-Natal teams (Sales, Service and Manufacturing) joined forces and embarked on our second charity outreach to ‘pay it forward’. These teams reached out to the Durban Child and Youth Care Centre and painted some of their rooms as part of the ‘Adopt a Room’ initiative. This Care Centre gives a home to 74 children and young adults with ages ranging between 2-18 years.

The Durban Child and Youth Care Centre first launched the Adopt a Room initiative in 2010. This initiative has given individuals, student groups, companies and service organisations the opportunity to make a real difference in children’s lives through volunteering their time, effort and resources into creating special spaces for the children in their care. Over the years, the Adopt a Room initiative has transformed the "old” into "new”.

Over and above the various rooms that we painted, we donated R3,000 to this Care Centre.

Rose Happy Times for the Elderly feels blessed

On 28 May 2016 the Deployment & Office Management teams made a difference and reached out to Rose Happy Times Elderly Care in Saulsville. Saulsville is an area in Atteridgeville, in the city of Tshwane in the Gauteng province. Rose Happy Times is a day care for 120 elderly. They have a feeding scheme and keep the elderly busy and entertained during the day. They have a vegetable garden, beadwork and sewing programme as well as a choir that competed on a national level.

During the outreach the elderly insisted that we play musical ball, pass the ball and potato and spoon race. The teams donated food and handed out hampers to the 16 volunteers that help out on a daily basis.

This has been an amazing experience. We learned that … Life is short. Make the best of every day! Stay busy. Stay active. Let’s celebrate life.

Cresset House villagers enjoyed games and lunch

Three of our teams (Settlements, Reconciliations and Risk) reached out to Cresset House in Glen Austin, Midrand in the Gauteng province. Cresset House is a self-sustaining community providing residential and work facilities for 51 adults with intellectual disabilities. Their residents (whom they also call 'Villagers') range between 18 to over 70 years. The Villagers come from diverse backgrounds and represent a number of different cultures. These Villagers enjoy a congenial village lifestyle in this secure community which serves as a comfortable and safe 'home away from home'.

Our teams played various games with the Villagers including swing-ball, soccer, bowls, foosball, table tennis and pool to name but a few. Not only did our teams make lunch for the Villagers and helpers, they also laid the tables and dish up/served the lunch!

Our Pretoria team reached out to CANSA TLC Nicus Lodge

Our BDA team based in Pretoria made a difference and did an outreach to CANSA TLC Nicus Lodge. This is a program operated by CANSA and provides a ‘home away from home’ for parents with children affected by cancer. They provide accommodation, food and support to these parents while their children are undergoing treatment such as chemo and radiation. Treatment duration can be anything from 6 months to two years, in which at least one parent needs to stay with the child full time. This can lead to enormous expenses, especially if the parent staying with the child cannot earn an income for this period.

The Cash Connect Pretoria team spent the morning at Nicus Lodge, cleaning up and driving away the garden refuse, doing small handy man jobs like fixing cupboards and taps and spring cleaning the kitchen and dining areas. The team also donated their R3,000.00 and some much needed washing powder to Nicus Lodge.

Our Service team is reaching out to abandoned babies

On Saturday, 16 July 2016, our Service Team reached out to El-Shammah, a home for abandoned babies, operating in the suburb of Primrose (Germiston). The main objective and vision of the home is to care for abandoned and or unwanted babies from new-born until approximately 12 months of age within an atmosphere of security and safety. The mission of the baby home is to facilitate a clean and neat home environment where the babies can find a place of love, care, and protection, a place where the babies can experience true motherly nourishment, physically, spiritually, and emotionally, through full time qualified and trained care givers on a 24/7 basis. Our Gauteng Service Team spent time with the care givers and babies and donated baby goods that is desperately required by El-Shammah.

This was a heart-felt outreach and I’m sure the team will talk about this event for weeks to come! We learned that we need to appreciate what we have and to be content.

Our Sales team donating books to Philena's Primary School

The Sales Team did an outreach to Philena Primary School, in Olievenhoutbosch. They painted the library container as well as donated books. In addition, the team stocked the container with plastic tables and chairs for learners to sit and read and the team made posters that were placed on the walls. This was truly a heart-felt outreach! Many learners have to share chairs and desks in the classrooms. Some of the Grade 1 classes have as much as 60 learners per class, with only one educator.

This outreach definitely made us appreciate what we have. We hope that more corporates will reach out to schools like Philena, giving young learners a chance for a better future.

Remember to look after our neglected dogs and cats

Our Cape Town team reached out to the Lucky Lucy Foundation. The Lucky Lucy Foundation is a non-profit, pro-life, pro-quality of Life organisation that tries to relieve the plight of severely neglected and abused township and street animals. Our team made a difference by laying pavers, planting grass, walking the dogs and playing with the cats. The Cape Town team included their families in the outreach. This outreach included intensive manual labour, so the boerie rolls during lunch-time were very well received!

Soup kitchen for the needy children and adults of Lenasia South

Our Information Technology team reached out to approximately 80 adults and 80 children and provided them with a delicious meal at Ltsco Ishwaar Temple, Lenasia South. In addition to providing a meal, the team handed out chips and lollipops to the children and even did some face painting. We were shocked to see how many teenagers are single parents that have to support their young ones. It breaks one’s heart to think that there are so many children and adults in our country that do not have food to eat. This outreach gave a new perspective on what we view as our ‘daily challenges’.

Our Operations Team reached out to mothers and their children

The Operations Team assisted the Cradle of Hope to get their second house ready for move-in so that they can reach out to more mothers. Our team donated computers for the computer lab (in progress), painted the house, installed CCTV, provided electric fencing, installing an electric gate motor and donated food, to name but a few. Every person in this team used their skills to make a difference in someone else’s lives, allowing the Cradle of Hope to make an even bigger difference.

Fun Day for children with diabetes

Throughout the world, incidences of diabetes are on the rise, and consequently so is diabetes amongst children. As an Opco Management Team we are passionate about children and giving back to the community, that is why we decided to host a Fun Day for children with diabetes at Rahima Moosa Diabetes Clinic. It was an amazing experience playing different games with the children and spending time with them. We learned a lot about the challenges that these children face on a daily basis, and at such a young age. Thank you to Leto Holistic Group for allowing us the opportunity. We challenge other corporates in South Africa to involve their employees to reach out to the various communities of our country, to make a difference and change lives.
